Brief Introduction to Portable Oxygen Concertrators

By Scott Ridl

A portable oxygen concentrator, also called a Portable Concentrator is a portable device used to provide oxygen therapy to a patient at substantially higher concentrations than the levels of ambient air. It is very similar to a Home Oxygen Concentrator, but it smaller in size and more mobile. The portable oxygen concentrator makes it easy for patients to travel freely; they are small enough to fit in a car and most of the major concentrators are now FAA approved.

Portable Oxygen Concentrators have been around for decades; but the older versions were bulky, not reliable and not FAA approved. Since 2000, a number of manufactures have introduced the latest and more reliable versions of the portable oxygen concentrators. They produce anywhere between 1 and 6 liters per minute (LPM) of oxygen. There are versions that are pulse-flow or continuous-flow. The portable concentrators plug directly into a regular house outlet for charging at home or hotel; but they came with a power adapter that can usually be plugged into a vehicle DC adapter. They have the ability to operate from the battery power as well for either ambulatory use, or away from a power source, or on a airplane.

On July 12, 2005 the FAA approved the use of portable oxygen concentrator for use on commercial airlines. This Special Federal Aviation Regulation (SFAR) will permit passengers to use certain portable oxygen concentrator (POC) devices on aircraft, provided certain conditions in this SFAR are satisfied. The SFAR includes a POC preparation requirement for carry-on baggage transport, and a battery-packaging standard necessary for the safe carriage of extra POC batteries in carry-on baggage. This rule making action is necessary to address the traveling needs of people on oxygen therapy.

Benefits of Facial Oxygen Therapy

By Scott Ridl

Facial oxygen treatments have developed over the last couple of years as an important skin care therapy. From oxygen creams to spray treatments, salons and spa have added the therapy to offer to clients. Celebrates have been talking about the benefits of oxygen facials for years, singers from Madonna to Jewel.

Doctors have stated that it has regenerative powers, as well as being used to help burn victims. In a 100% oxygen rich environment; bacteria, viruses, and fungal infections do not survive. Higher concentrations of oxygen will jump start the bodies healing functions. If you are severely burned or cut, the skin will rapidly heal in such a favorable environment.

The Industrial Revolution and deforestation, has been lowering the oxygen that most of us breathe yearly. The oxygen level is only 21%, with some major cites down to 17% due to car pollution and factories. We are oxygen starved from our skin to our lungs to our hair. The lack of oxygen results in stressed, pre-mature skin. The increase of ultra-violent rays from the sun also puts extra stress on the skin.

Adding pure oxygen will repair damage inflicted to our bodies that we are lacking. Oxygen treatments will help all different kinds of enemies to the skin, from pollution and lack of oxygen.

Benefits include firmer and smoother skin; it also erases lines, wrinkles and enhances elasticity. Also, the benefits are cumulative as the production of collagen and elastin repair the skin and restore the complexion to a more youthful and beautiful you.

The results of a properly done oxygen facial are nothing less than astonishing as can be attested by the many celebrities that endorse them and its one of the safest and most efficient ways I know of how to continue to look your best.
